Litfin Joins Sharks
Words: Michael Flynn
Palm Beach SC have announced that former Brisbane Roar Youth captain Ben Litfin has joined the club for the remainder of the 2015 season.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who originally hails from the Gold Coast and played junior football with Musgrave Mustangs, is expected to complement Sharks skipper Justyn McKay in the centre of the Sharks formation.
Litfin previously played in the Foxtel National Youth League with now defunct club Gold Coast United before linking with Young Roar in 2013.
A key performer in both clubs’ elite youth set-ups, Litfin has yet to play in the Hyundai A-League despite regularly training with Roar’s first-team squad in recent seasons.
Sharks coach Grae Piddick said he was delighted to secure the services of Litfin and suggested he will be a dynamic addition to the team for the rest of the season.
“He is a talented young midfielder who has had some disappointment lately so he is looking forward to playing with his mates and enjoying his football again,” Piddick explained.
“He has the capability to play anywhere in midfield and will add to our creativity, passing and movement that we are trying to develop with this younger group this year.”
Short of match fitness since his last match for Young Roar in mid-April, Piddick confirmed his new recruit remains a fifty-fifty proposition to debut for the defending PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Premiers-Champions this weekend against his former club.
In an added bonus for Sharks, Roar are yet to start their 2015 Westfield FFA Cup campaign and Litfin will not be cup-tied for the looming knock-out clash with SWQ Thunder in early June.
