Since their humiliating on goal effort against Saints in round 2 the Cutters have not put a foot wrong.
At 21.19 (145) to 8.6 (54) defeat of North Cairns on Saturday was enough to put them above Centrals and Port Douglas on percentage, with all three sides having 5-2 records after seven rounds.
Seven goals to Jame Dixon was the highlight as the Cutters led at every turn to continue Norths tough season. Player coach Daniel Lock said the team had responded perfectly sing the horrid showing against Saints. "After that game there were a few home truths told to the entire squad and as a coach Ive seen the attitude and commitment to change." he said. "But we cant ger ahead of ourselves. Wer are one of a number of teams capable of making the finals but if you arent playing well you wont win."
An undermanned Souths knocked off Port the previous weekend in a physical and emotional game, while on Saturday they were more methodical in their disposal of North Cairns.
How far theyve really come will be on show when they meet Saints again fir the first tmie since the 1.13 (19) to 14.12 (96) loss to them on April 18. Lock returned from minor injury to be among Souths best on Saturday but they were without full forward Paul Smith, captain Camerons Campbell and veteran Marc Harbrow.
Campbell is expected to be out for another month but the return of one of last seasons best in Billy English is getting closer as he recovers from knee surgery.
"We had six out against Port too and they guys that came in were shown what level we needed to be at every week," Lock said.
"So to get a win there was handy and I thought we were ok again on Saturday, but could have ticked a few more boxes."
Centrals stayed level with Souths and Port beatint City Lions 19.16 (130) to 12.7 (79) at Holloways beach.
