Pride Launch High Performance Review
Words: Matt Dorman
Western Pride are striving to enhance football in the Ipswich region by embarking on a high performance review of the club’s operations.
Senior Men’s coach Karl Dodd is driving the entire strategic assessment which welcomes community feedback and will undergo open workshops.
One particular goal is to to provide clarity around Pride’s role as a PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland club.
“It’s a representative program, an elite player pathway,” Dodd said.
“I don’t think people are treating it that way. There’s a big misconception and it creates a lot of barriers.
“We’re trying to get rid of the barriers so we can function in our region.”
The review is already underway with an online survey to remain open until 31 May, after which an analysis of results and strategic planning sessions will take place.
Dodd hopes to receive plenty of feedback across a range of topics as Pride, whose PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland licence is held by Football Ipswich, plan for a bright future.
“We’re at the survey phase at the moment and getting a bit of information out there too,” the former Hyundai A-League defender explained.
“The next step is obviously to collect the results and then we’ll report the results in an open workshop, so everyone in the region can come if they want.
“We’ll identify the key issues in that workshop and then start the planning process of how to solve it.”
Having made a career playing football across five countries, Dodd is well-accustomed to the requirements of a club operating in a professional sphere.
The former Brisbane Roar, Falkirk and Wellington Phoenix player is confident a dedicated pathway for elite players will result in an overall increase in the ability of Australian footballers and benefit the sport at all levels.
“It’s just streamlining the talent selection and identification process, which makes sense, and I think is a lot better than the old representative programs,” he said.
“Now you have 40 plus weeks a year, three nights a week and games, it’s a lot more specific.
“It has a flow down effect. You’re strengthening football as a whole.”
