In what is always a great game of football, Ouyen United will host Walpeup Underbool. This was a close match in round one, but it seems Ouyen United have built come confidence since then, and the Roos have unfortunately gone the other way.
The Roos sit winless on the bottom of the ladder and struggling to find form. They will want this week to be the big turn-around they are hoping for.
Luke Coates will return this week and Matt Palmer may also be a chance. The Roos best players so far this year seem to be very similar every week. They will need everybody at their best if they are to get over the line and register their first win. With the evenness of the league this year, a win will keep them in finals contention.
However the Demons will be out to make sure they are back on the winners list after missing out against Woomelang Lascelles last week. The Cats have the bye so this is a chance for Ouyen United to move up into second spot. If the Demons are able to get in front early, they may have percentage on their mind as it looks like it will be tight in the race to finish in the top 2.
Their backline have given nothing away all year and rarely allow an opposition player to get on top to kick a bag of goals. Coach Andrew Jardine has lead by example and brought his young players along with him. With the confidence he has built amongst his team it is hard to see them falling to a struggling Roos.
The Southern Mallee Giants will have enjoyed a week off to recover from a physical game against the Cats in round 4. There will be some forced changes with Zac Robins and Mark Williams unavailable through injury, but should have 2014 league best and fairest Tyler Lehmann and Jason Turnbull rejoin the ranks. Lehmann will provide a ball winner for the Giants and Turnbull some clean skills, both important if they are to make up the 45 points they were beaten by in round one against the Tigers.
Sea Lake Nandaly’s confidence will be high after thrashing a hapless Roos last week. Their running brigade is a strength. They work hard to get back in defence and then slingshot forward in a ‘fast break’ style play. With so much depth through the midfield they are able to constantly rotate and keep fresh players in their engine room for much of the game. Tom Summerhayes, Scott Weekley and Col Durie will need to be closely monitored by the Giants to limit their impact on the game.
The Tigers are up and going at the minute and they won’t be giving the Giants an easy run.
