Port Melbourne looked to run away with the game game late in the final term, out by 24 points, before a late run saw Geelong cut the deficit to five points after the final siren. They sit on top of the VFL ladder tonight with just the one defeat so far this season.

Telling facts: After Northern Blues led by 25 points at half time, Essendon fought back with five unanswered goals to take for the first time for the afternoon early in the final term. While the Blues regained the lead Essendon kicked the final two goals through Giles and Langford to run out winners.
