New Moreton Bay United recruit Stephen Green’s PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland debut will provide an immediate introduction to the travel rigours of state-wide football.
The 20-year-old attacker, who was hand-picked by Jets coach Adam Piddick to replace the recently departed Daniel Clark, travels to Townsville as the top-of-the-table Jets face Northern Fury at Brolga Park tonight.
Green was initially approached by Piddick to don the Jets’ yellow and black strip earlier this season, however he opted to instead remain with Logan Lightning in Football Brisbane’s Trophy Superstore Premier League - scoring three goals in nine matches in the third tier competition.
However, Green said now the time was right to face a new challenge.
“I’d been at Logan for six years and wanted to think about it for a while before deciding if it would be best for my career,” he explained.
“The boys made the transition quite easy for me but I’ve still work to do figuring out exactly how the team plays.”
He added, “I think I’m quite flexible as a player but my priority now is trying to get in the starting team for Moreton Bay United.”
Green had his first taste of life in the second-tier as a substitute in Wednesday night’s Westfield FFA Cup clash against PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland title contenders Brisbane Strikers.
“(The FFA Cup tie) was certainly a lot quicker, more technical and more flowing as a game. There were fewer stops,” Green concluded.
Piddick explained while Green isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Clark, he was excited by his new signing’s potential in the Jets formation.
“Stephen can play anywhere. He’s a natural footballer, but different to Clarky,” he said.
“Clarky is more technical. Stephen is a runner, gets on the end of a ball, works really hard," Piddick concluded.
