#ExpectBIGThings
For those who missed it, last week a large contingent of GWS GIANTS stars (think Jeremy Cameron, Shane Mumford, Heath Shaw, Jonathon Patton, Adam Treloar, Dylan Shiel etc etc) paid the Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas a surprise visit at their Tuesday night training session at Gipps Road Oval. You can catch the video at the following link http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/video/2015-05-19/expect-big-things-holroyd-parramatta-goannas but in short, after training with the team, a goal kicking shoot out followed between Jeremy Cameron and the reigning Division One leading goal kicker Ben Rogers. Without spoiling the result, how about the one step barrel from Benny! A brilliant initiative by the GIANTS and stay tuned for their next surprise... #ExpectBIGThings
Family Feud?
Some classic footage from last weekends Match of the Week between Western Suburbs and UTS has emerged which involves the Etto brothers. Whilst evading a tackler in traffic, older brother Tarran can be seen getting boot to ball which proceeds to smack his younger brother fair in the melon for what must surely be close to Falcon of the Year. The blow knocked Jordan to the ground briefly while the ball went out of bounds. Its tough love in the Etto household though as Tarran doesn’t check on his brothers welfare despite being well aware but rather sets up for the ball in. Wonder if its been frosty around home / training this week?

Ladies Day Spoilers
More an interesting fact, but Sydney University are making a name for themselves as being a Ladies Day curse following their draw with Pennant Hills on the Demon’s big Ladies Day over the weekend. This follows on from their thrilling draw with UTS last year at Waverley, which you guessed it, also happened to be the Bats Ladies Day (not that many of the spectators that day realised). Any team playing Sydney University on their Ladies Day should be aware!
Ooh Aah, Kieran Emery
Key East Coast Eagles defender Kieran Emery had his own Glenn McGrath Ashes moment last weekend when, during the warm up for the Premier Division match against North Shore he stepped backwards onto a football and rolled the ankle. Not one to show his pain, he finished the warm up and played the first quarter only to have to pull the pin for the last three quarters. An unaware coach was none to impressed his star back didnt let him now before the game.
Where are They Now?
At the conclusion of the 2014 AFL Sydney season we had a number of competition stars move on for various opportunities so we thought we might give an update on what they are up to now.
Alex Goodall (reigning Phelan Medallist) decided to try his luck in the strong Ovens and Murray competition with heavyweights Albury Tigers. Lining up alongside former AFL starts in Setanta O’Hailpin, Angus Graham, Dean Polo to name a few, Goodall has managed to play all six senior games which is a great effort and kick a couple of goals. To add more credence to this, the Tigers are the only undefeated side in the competition and on top of the table. The ever modest “Cheese” says that he has had a bit of luck and more than a few splinters but everyone who knows him can attest that he would be at the bottom of every pack and more than deserving of his place.
Tyrone Armitage (2013 Phelan Medallist) ventured south of the border in the off season and after plenty of offers, decided to call the Northern Blues (Carlton’s reserve grade side) home. He obviously impressed on the track in pre-season as he was asked to play in the Carlton intra-club against the big boys (where he ran down Dale Thomas) and didnt look out of place. Since the season has got underway he has been playing in the Northern Blues Development Team where he even captained the side for one game. He is right on the fringe of senior selection with 7 goals from his 5 games and in the best 3 times.
Lachlan Kilpatrick also found himself at the Northern Blues this year alongside Manly-Warringah teammate Armitage. Kilpatrick’s season though has been disrupted by injury but he is hoping to return this weekend. He sustained a surfing injury over summer from a fin chop which took time to heal and then his first trial match he injured his AC joint. Nearing full strength now, Kilpatrick will be aiming to hit the ground running and gain senior selection through consistent football.
Lachlan Hayres was another who moved to “Mexico” in the off season when he transferred to the Hampton Rovers. While not yet playing with the Rovers, Hayres has impressively played 5 TAC Cup games with Sandringham (including in both their victories) where he has been named in the best two times. He has also played two games with Sandringham in the Development League in between.
Jesse Mudge crossed the country at the end of 2014 and has settled with South Fremantle in the WAFL. Jesse has played five games in the colts so far averaging just over 13 possessions and more than 5 tackles per game. His most recent outing saw his best game of the season as Mudge collected 20 touches and 11 tackles in his sides comprehensive win over Peel Thunder to be best on ground. The Bulldogs sit in 3rd position on the ladder with 5 wins.
Hayden Nichols followed former UNSW/ES team mate Adam Gulden to South Adelaide in the SANFL over the off season where Gulden had been starring. The under rated Nichols has played all six games for the Reserves this season (who are 1-5) and is pushing for senior selection
