The Round 5 Women's Rising Star nominee is Quincy Dorans of Blacktown Magic.
Quincy Dorans moved from the Kimberley region of W.A. late last year to take up a scholarship at Pacific Hills Christian School Dural. Quincy overheard a couple of her teachers talking about playing AFL and when they found out she liked AFL they brought her to training. Quincy last played competitive AFL in the U12s. Quincy has a good pedigree, her Mum played for Melbourne Uni and now umpires the men’s competition in W.A. Quincy is a quiet young lady who does her talking on the field. She is highly competitive and sets a high standard for herself.
As well as playing AFL Quincy was accomplished in Netball including being selected into the National Indigenous School girls team; Open women’s NT Links Netball Competition and recently was selected for NSW Combined Independent Schools Open Girls Touch Football Team.
Last Saturday saw Quincy display amazing attacking skills given she was being treated for plantar fascia injury throughout the game. In one burst of 5 mins she came off the physio table to our half forward line and from outside the 50m arc stepped around 4 opponents before kicking a goal. She then got the ball from the restart and handed off to a teammate for another goal before returning to the physio for more treatment. At the end of the game she apologised to the coach for not being able to “pull her weight”.
Quincy still has 2 yrs of her scholarship to go so we hope to have her at the Magic for a while and also assist her to gain selection in the NSW indigenous and U18 teams in 2016.
