The forecast was for sunny skies, but it rained goals at Mercury Sports Complex on Sunday.
The venue proved the scene for Shepparton South’s resounding 9-3 victory against Shepparton in FFV Goulburn North East division one women’s action.
South bounced back from a last-start defeat to Shepparton United in the best possible fashion.
At times, South played with the style of Juventus, the Italian club they share black and white colours with.
South led 5-0 at the half-time break and while the Reds added some respectability to the scoreboard in the second, never looked like making serious inroads.
Tearnie Brown enjoyed one of her best days out, scoring four goals and proving a constant menace to the Shepparton defence.
Samantha Mackay scored a hat-trick, while Grace Zito marked her first game of the season with a goal and Alannah Scopelliti also got on the scoresheet for the winners.
Shepparton’s Kiara Ruijters capped a good game with two goals and Alicia Rowan hit the back of the net for the first time this season.
Janna Lawson scored all four goals as Cobram Roar remained top of the pops with a 4-0 away success against Tatura.
Lawson has been a revelation since her arrival at the club, who have followed a similar pattern to the men’s team, not conceding a goal through the opening three games.
