BLUES BREAK GAME WIDE OPEN IN SECOND HALF TO CRACK SOUTH AND MAINTAIN PERFECT RECORD

Shepparton United produced a slashing second-half display to keep its 100 per cent winning record in the FFV Goulburn North East division one women’s competition on Sunday.

Scores were locked 0-0 at the main break, but United made every post a winner in the second stanza at a wild and windy Central Park.

The Blues drew first blood through the tricky feet of attacking whiz Olivia Cornwall on 52 minutes.

Cornwall, who at times was dazzling with her ability to scythe past defenders, found the back of the net following a superb through ball from the United midfield.

United wasted little time doubling its advantage through super-sub Sarah Loverso in the 59th minute.

South clawed its way back into the contest on 65 minutes through a strike from Jamieson Clarke, who along with defender Katy Bradley and skipper Jacki Lombardozzi proved South’s leading lights.

But Loverso rounded out a brace in the 73rd minute to not only break South hearts, but ensure United would progress to victory.

Caitlin Georgiou completed the scoring with just four minutes of regulation time remaining.

Cornwall, right midfielder Rezwana Baqiri, right-back Chelsea Georgiou and Loverso headlined a long list of impressive performers for United, which is equal on points with Cobram Roar.

The Roar continued its brilliant start to the season with a 6-0 demolition of Shepparton at the showgrounds on Sunday.

Cobram has now scored nine goals and is yet to concede any in its two appearances this season.

The Roar travels to Tatura in round three, while South will look to get its season on track when it makes the trip to Mercury Dve to take on Shepparton.
