More rain has coincided with a flood of entries this week’s for Danny’s Diatribe. Fresh from a little sojourn of his own, Danny is refreshed and ready to dish out some carve-ups.
The Eagle has landed
Few in AFL Sydney could claim to have travelled as far as big East Coast ruckman, Andrew Browning. Browning has a football resume that includes stints in Morningside (QAFL), South Cairns Cutters, Tatura (Goulburn Valley), Belconnen (Canberra) and legend has it, him and his partner walked to the Eagles home ground looking for a game one day in 2014. Fast forward to now and the bearded statue is the dominant ruckman in the league and was “best on by a country mile” according to coach, Michael Sankey with his highlight reel including the longest goal of the match in the top-of-the-table clash with Pennant Hills at a wet Mike Kenny. Who said ruckmen don’t have skills?
No struggle for Ayres
The AFL runs a national tipping competition on its website with over 168,000 registered players.
As reported in the Sunday Telegraph, as of last weekend, equal first in Australia was none other than 200-game veteran for the Penrith Rams and the now NSW State Minister for Trade, Tourism, Major Events and Sport, Stuart Ayres (Sayres10 in the tipping competition).
Ayres must possess a sixth sense given the upsets in the opening few weeks and made hay out of GWS’ success.
Rowe’s are red
Danny is disturbed by a worrying trend of footballers getting exposure based on their looks. The latest on Danny’s wrap sheet is UNSW/ES utility, Fletcher Rowe.
He was recently nominated for Babe Watch on 2day FM. You can see his nomination here at http://www.2dayfm.com.au/shows/the-dan-maz-show/photos/all-the-babewatch-babes/
Unfortunately it's expected that his career is over for babe watch after going for a hard ball get. The photo on the left shows the damage.
Manly brat pack on tour
Every year, a few of the Manly-Warringah boys head down to Melbourne for the ANZAC Day clash fluffing around at trendy bars in chinos, boatshoes and plade shirts. They take plenty of snap chats, use their parents credit cards for beers whilst not being able to muster up enough courage to talk to a single girl.
Danny has an exclusive report card.
Jack Hawkins- On return was dropped from Premier Division and was quoted sadly saying "ressies? I eat that s*&t for Breaky". The selection was a bigger comedown then Sunday morning
Angus Buncle- Was still reeling from being man handled by Matt Carey which caused a fractured shoulder. He offered nothing all weekend sleeping more than he drank. It's safe to say his best days are behind him and was well off footy trip form.
Steve Kelly- Is on the outer of the group after bringing his mum down and she continually saying " oh go shhhhhhtevie"
TS = SP?
Trent Stubbs has stopped responding to his own name and is insisting everyone at the club call him SP or Stan Phelan.
Bat Files
The rumour around the Bat Cave is former Muswellbrook Cats water boy/equipment manager Braedon “BJ" Jones may be pulling on the boots in 2015. After competing in international level Triathlons the past 2 years, Jones has been seen testing himself at training to get himself ready for a possible shock return to the game… The Division 5 coaching staff are reluctant to play Jones however, due to his lack of fitness and inability to kick over a jam tin. In other news, a "Tom Sundberg" has been spotted roaming around at UTS training much to the delight of surprised onlookers… according to the WWF, this critically endangered mammal is so rarely seen, that next time it appears it will be tranquillised and put in a zoo for the protection of this magnificent species.
Coach left at the altar
Jack Schwarze, the Holroyd-Parramatta senior coach is said to be absolutely livid with Michael Lennox after waiting at a train station for him for over an hour on Saturday and subsequently turning up to the Swans game at half time. Lennox claims traffic was bad in the area but he has been known to show up late on multiple occasions as he likes to make sure his new "Samurai" hair cut is looking "fresh". Needless to say "Noxxy" as the boys call him, is facing an uphill battle for first grade selection this week. It would be remiss of me not to state that Schwarze turned up to the Swans game in a GWS Giants jersey claiming they were a top four side to be reckoned with this year.
Full yardage
On the theme of coaches, Pennant Hills’ super coach, Chris Yard was seen dropping his wallet in Michael Johnston’s backpack to get out of buying players a beer at the club after the game. It wasn't until “Mouse” got home that that he realised it was still in there. Rumour has it that he used Yard’s card to Paywave a few cases for that nights festivities.
...Back on the Goanna track
Mark Pettit or the “Pilipino Prodigy” as his known around the Holroyd-Parramatta boys, has been annoying everyone for weeks pumping up Manny Pacquiao saying he couldn't lose. Placing bets with a lot of different people and different amounts he thought he was in for a huge pay day come Sunday when the ‘Fight of the Century’ was to take place. Head in hands, flag on the floor and a few tears shed after a Mayweather win, he assured the boys he would pay up his owing bets. Now with the Pacquiao shoulder controversy and the mix up with judges scorecards, he says he won't pay up unless there's a re-match where he wants double or nothing.
Also whilst on the Goannas, Ryan Beatty from the Goannas Under 19s after kicking his first goal in years has called out Senior Side Captain, Josh Terrey and claims to have him covered in the goal tally this season. The current score sits at 1-0 to the young Lizard. Goannas supporters were ecstatic when Beatty kicked his first goal of the year with many happy they wouldn't have to see him do the nudie run at the end of the season...
Football the aim
Finally, normally winning games would be an aim of most football sides at this point of the season, but for the Ramettes they would just be happy to hit the track. The Penrith girls haven't played an official game yet after a bye in Round 1 and washouts in Rounds 2 and 3.
