PRODUCT OF ASSUMPTION COLLEGE FACTORY
Jake Murphy is another success of the Assumption College footy factory.
Having grown up in Kilmore, the talented 18-year-old was always going to be part of the football set-up at some stage in his career.
He debut for Assumption College in Year 7 and played there until last year.
When he was not playing for one of the most famous school teams, he played for Seymour.
Murphy was a member of the losing under 18 team that played off in the grand final last year.
Coach Brent Colbert was instantly impressed by what he saw in three pre-season games for the Lions.
After failing to win a spot on the playing list of the Calder Cannons, Murphy made the decision to play full-time with the Lions.
Murphy says he gained plenty from his experience of training with the TAC Cup over the summer.
“The Cannons coaching staff went into more depth about the game and the tactical information regarding set plays was beneficial,” he said.
He says the notable differences between thirds and senior football is the bigger bodies you come up against and the pace of the game.
“The GV senior competition is a very high standard and the players are as good as you see in any competition across the state,” he said.
Murphy rates Jack Palpratt and Josh Mellington as his toughest two opponents that he has played on in 2015.
He made his senior debut in round one against Benalla and has played in all four games this year.
