Boort v St Arnaud
St Arnaud continued on their winning way in their match against Boort. The Saints were able to keep the young Boort side goalless in the opening term as they kicked out to a 37-point lead at the first break.
In the second quarter the Saints were again able to kick goals as they pleased and the indications were starting to show that this was going to get ugly and a large defeat was looking the Magpies in the face. Boort finally got on the score board but they still went to half time trailing by 74-points. St Arnaud had many good players with Wells, Tipungwuti, Batters and Vassallo giving the Saints plenty of opportunity to build towards a big win. Boort under the leadership of Taylor and Wilson were giving their all but could not find a way to kick a score to keep in touch with the Saints.
St Arnaud who are very powerful up forward added a further nine goals in this quarter and the Magpies were able to get a couple of majors to this point and kick their highest score, but it was still not looking pretty on the scoreboard. What usually happens when your team is well down and with little hope of victory things only get worse? And Boort was hoping this would not happen.
With the Saints getting the first two goals of the final term it was a matter of by how far for the Saints but to their surprise the young Boort side struck back to match the Saints with six last quarter goals in their best performance to date. In the finish it was a margin of 117-points favouring the Saints with Vassallo (6) Tillig (4) Tipungwuti (4) being their major goal scorers and Boort coach Sam Taylor was their best with two goals.
Final St Arnaud 26-26=176 defeated Boort 9-5=59

Charlton v Wycheproof-Narraport
Charlton were keen to get on top of the Demons early and were looking to redeem themselves after their loss to the Royal Blues last week and they got away to a good start when the held the visitors to just two points in the opening term while they added four goals to give them a 22-point lead at the first change.
In the second quarter goals were scarce for both sides with the Navy Blues only being able to add one goal and the Demons two goals and at half time this was a scrappy game with little interest being shown by those on the sidelines. At the main break Charlton held a 16-point lead but it was hard work for both sides.
After the break Charlton got the better of the third term and were able to stretch their lead out to 29-points by the end of the quarter. Wycheproof-Narraport were unable to make inroads to pull back the Navy Blues lead and the way the game was panning out Charlton’s lead while not being huge still looked to have them in a winning position as the Demons who had only kicked four goals in three quarters would need to kick that many in the final term just to draw level with Charlton.
Two sides, just one goal between them in the final quarter with that going the way of Charlton and the Demons who had found it hard to score all day could only manage three points. In the end Charlton would run out winners by 35-points and while it was not real convincing it was enough to get them the four points and back on the winners list as they head to the bye next week. For the Demons they will regroup and prepare for their next match which is at home against the Bulls. Joe McGrath was the major goals scorer for Charlton with four and for the Demons James Coatsworth kicked three of their four goals. Rhys Thompson, Joe McLean, Joe McGrath and Luke Mulquiny were best for Charlton and for Wycheproof-Narraport, George Turner, Chris Howgate and James Coatsworth were the better players for the Demons.
Final scores Charlton 9-11=65 def Wycheproof-Narraport 4-6=30
Birchip-Watchem v Donald
Birchip-Watchem were out to make amends of their defeat of the previous week when they were given a football lesson by the Saints and were keen not to let this happen against Donald. In what was a spirited first quarter the Bulls got the better of the start kicking four first term goals and held the Royal Blues scoreless, something that was not expected after their come from behind win in last week’s match against Charlton? The Bulls took a 27-point lead to the first break after kicking against the wind and looked by far the better side.
Birchip-Watchem now with the wind was confident of building on their first quarter effort and extend their lead over the Royal Blues, but the Bulls were unable to do add any great margin with just the one goal being kicked in the quarter but they held a comfortable lead of 31-points at the main break.
The long break didn’t do the Royal Blues any favours as they headed into the third quarter hoping to get their game back on track but they were unable to utilise the assistance of the breeze and would end the third quarter remaining goalless with just five points being their total score. Birchip-Watchem didn’t fare much better as they could only add the one major score in what was an uninteresting game to this point. At the final change the Donald side trailed by 38-points and they would have to have a complete form reversal if they were going to reduce the match winning lead held by Bulls.
To the joy of the Royal Blue supporters the Royals registered their first goal of the game early in the final quarter, this was followed by another but would it give them the platform to make a run for the four points. Birchip-Watchem put a halt to the Donald revival when they posted back to back goals to again retain their three quarter time lead. With only six goals being kicked in the first three quarters, all by the Bulls, most thought that there was little hope of a close finish happening and they were correct as the Bulls further steadied the ship before the Donald side kicked the last two goals of the game to make their score look a little more respectable. Birchip-Watchem run out winners by 28-points with Ratcliffe, Cusack and Hinkley being their best while for the Donald side Garner, Jewell and Fisher were their better contributors.
Final scores Birchip-Watchem 9-7=61 defeated Donald 4-9=33
