Quartet face off against old mates

Football West News

A quartet of Perth SC players are expected to line up against their former club when they take on Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

Defender David Cyrus became the latest Balcatta player to join rivals Perth when he made the switch this week.

He joins Carlo Coelho (pictured above), Alex Dunn, and Ashley Rosindale in a Perth side aiming to get back on track after a 3-2 loss to league-leader Bayswater City.

Coach Taki Nicolaidis has already spoken to his Balcatta contingent, particularly Cyrus, about staying focused on the job at hand.

“I’ve had a chat with him and I know he wants to impress but he can’t afford to do anything silly,” Nicolaidis said.

“Players will get in his ear but he’s experienced and reliable and he told be there’s nothing to worry about.”

Balcatta coach Ramon Falzon, who was disappointed to lose Grenada international Cyrus, said no player needed any additional motivation going into a derby fixture eagerly anticipated by both sides.

“From the people at the club this is the fixture they most look forward to,” said Falzon, of a fixture that brought together two clubs with strong links to the Italian community. “I sense in the players they are definitely boosted more this week.

“From last year’s experience, I think most players from both teams would like to step it up in this game.”

After losing in their last league game against Bayswater, Perth beat All Flags State League side Fremantle City in last weekend’s Westfield FFA Cup round, while Balcatta were knocked out of the competition by Subiaco.
