FINDING HIS FEET AFTER MOVE TO VICTORIA
New Kyabram recruit Sam Smith is not from your traditional football background, having grown up in Northern Territory.
Born in Swan Hill, the 19-year-old moved away from Victoria when he was three years old.
Smith started at a very young age, with his first kick of football coming through the Auskick program.
He then went on to play for Southern Districts until a business course at a Victorian university saw him land at Kyabram this year.
"I was recruited to Kyabram through Ash Vick. I think he is related to our captain Josh Vick," Smith said.
The high leaping ruckman says he gained plenty from his experience of playing with the NT Thunder at the national championships and in the TAC Cup last year.
His drive comes from a new draftee on the Geelong list.
"I played all my juniors with Cockatoo and he is my inspiration,"
"One day I would love to get drafted."
Smith has made a positive start along with his Kyabram team-mates.
"We've got a few hard matches coming up, but the boys are looking good," he said.
He says the notable difference between the two competitions is the pace.
"I reckon the NT competition is less structured and players tend to take on the game," he said.
"Here in Victoria the players have bigger bodies, which is taking me a little bit of getting used of for me."
Smith and his Bomber team-mates take on Rochester after this weekend's bye.
