The Roos and Cougars have been two of the best teams over the last couple years and 2015 looks to be the same yet again.
The Roos beat the Cougars in the epic 2013 Grand-Final while the Cougars got their revenge by knocking the Roos out of the preliminary finals in 2014.
Both teams have genuine stars through their ranks, Coolaroo have Tom Rudolph the powerful midfielder who loves kicking a goal, the elusive Phil Driese, the hard running and tackling pressure of Michael Langton and super goal kicker Adam Green. They have the weapons at their disposal to kick a massive score and do it quickly. Look for young guns Brendan Shelton and Dale Carlish to get onto the outside of the contestes and deliever to their forwards. The Cougars will need to wathc these two closley on the wings as they love to run in open spaces.
University boast their own superstars in Heath Gniel, the pressure man Ryan Hopkins, inspirational Skipper Cory Balnaves and goal sneak Sam Banim they too have the power to kick a big score. The Cougars have a strong core of veterans but their young guns will be their point of difference. Look for the likes of Stuart Huggins to get out inspace and deliever the ball onto a silver platter for his forwards. The Roos will need to stop his run as he will cause headaches all day if they do not.
Both teams started the season in fantastic fashion and both teams will go into the match very confident. They love playing against each other, they have mutual respect off the field but they hate each other on it.
The game will be won in the midfield and who can give their forwards to most chances to kick goals. Both teams’ defences will be ready for the ambush and will look to counter attack. Both teams play a physical, fast game of footy. The game will be played at break neck speed, so the team that can control the ball the longest and stick their tackles will come out on top.
Another chapter is about to be written in the fiercest modern day rivalry for the region, as the University Cougars take on the Coolaroo Roo's in the Allied Pickford’s round 2 match of the round. Get down to Gold Park for a 5:40pm start of high quality game of twilight football at its best.
