It may be a new season but the North Mackay Saints will be looking for some kind of redemption when they face the Eastern Swans in the AFL Mackay Premier Women’s match of the round.
The last time these two sides met was in last season’s Preliminary Final where the Swans ended the Saints season at Harrup Park by 15-points, as the Eastern Swans progressed to the inaugural Grand-Final going down to the Mackay Magpies in the decider.
However, fast forward and a brand new season get underway officially for North Mackay after the bye in the opening round.
The Eastern Swans are coming off an impressive 87-point win over the Moranbah Bulldogs; however the Swans will be without Captain Alana McNabb who will be representing the region on the Gold Coast a-part of the AFL Queensland Women’s Academy.
North Mackay will be fresh; the Saints showed an attacking brand of football during the Pre-Season Challenge series in Airlie and no doubt will be looking to silence the Swans early in the contest.
Both sides have fantastic players across the paddock but this game will be won in with youth.
This match will come down to the influence of two key young stars for either side. Rebecca Grummitt (Swans) and Rahnee Vaccaneo (Saints), if these two go head to head, it will be well worth the trek to Zeolla Park on Sunday.
Both players don’t give an inch and both produce a-lot of offensive drive and defensive resistance, whichever player can impact the contest early will give their side the upper-hand.
