The Ellinbank & District 2015 Football season will kick off this Saturday with a ‘catch up’ match between the 2014 West Division Premiers Cora Lynn against and arch rivals Nar Nar Goon at Cora Lynn.
The catch up match is required to cater for the uneven number of teams in the competition.
A big day of football will start with the U/16s at 2:30 pm. The main game will start at 7pm.
A full set of Round 1 matches will commence on 11 April.
It is recommended to get to Cora Lynn early because it is the only game of football for premiership points in the region so a huge crowd is expected. The Cunningham Cup which is played for in the first meeting of the clubs every year will be up for grabs to add a bit more spice to the contest.
A close game is expected. In 2014 the three meetings between the two clubs were thrillers with Cora Lynn coming out on top winning two to one in head to head contests that were only separated by a no more than a few kicks.
Cora Lynn will field a side that will include former AFL StKilda stars and mates Justin Koschitzke and ‘Aussie’ Jones. It will be the only game for Koschitzke in the Cobra jumper but Jones, who was appointed Director of Coaching at the club is likely to put on the boots a number of times this year. Nar Nar Goon is expected to unveil around half a dozen newcomers. Do yourself a favour and head to the Cora Lynn Cobradome on Saturday evening to see what promises to be an exciting game to open the season.
