UQFC Move Into First

UQFC Women stormed to the top of the table of on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Sunshine Coast FC Women at Kawana Soccer Club.
Greta Bodey’s struck her eight goal of the campaign in the first half, before spectacular second half strike from Emma Klos and a late own goal secured the visitors a full share of the points.
Following a weekend of heavy rain, both teams battled hard in tough conditions through much of the contest.
UQFC took the lead just before the break when Golden Boot contender Bodey turned in a cross with a composed finish.
Fire spurned a chance to pull a goal back just after the hour on the counter-attack when Samara Christmas’ shot saw her shot blocked.
Klos ultimately made the hosts pay for the miss when she delivered a stunning shot from just inside halfway to double the margin with 11 minutes remaining.
UQFC then effectively secured the win with two minutes remaining in regulation time as Fire turned the ball into their own net from a corner kick.
The result was Fire’s second straight defeat and sees them drop to eighth in the league standings.
