Former Manly Warringah player Lachlan Kilpatrick has starred in the Northern Blues intraclub match last weekend.
The below report was found on the Northern Blues website (http://northernbluesfc.com.au/news/587-nbfc-news-kilpatrick-feature.html):
New city, new club, new teammates but it has been the same old attitude adopted by Northern Blues recruit Lachie Kilpatrick when tackling this pre-season.
The 21-year-old joined Manly-Warringah Giants premiership teammate and captain Ty Armitage in migrating south to Melbourne at the beginning of the pre-season and hasn’t looked back.
But while it hasn’t all been smooth sailing – a lacerated foot the result of some surfing over the Christmas break derailing much of his January – an impressive showing in the Northern Blues’ intra club last Friday has seen the Sydney beaches native make good of his move.
“Coming down in my first year from Sydney, pre-season’s been pretty good so far in general,” Kilpatrick said after last Friday’s match.
“It’s been different, there’s been a lot more running than what I’ve been used to.
“There’s been a few ups and downs through the pre-season with some injury, but to get through (Friday night) hopefully I can continue on with no worries.”
A relatively new convert to AFL, Kilpatrick’s rise through the AFL Sydney ranks has been nothing short of meteoric including Rising Star Awards, three premierships, including a best-on-ground performance, and 11 games as a Sydney Swans reserves top-up player.
Described by Blues GM Garry O’Sullivan as a “balanced, hard-running midfielder” upon his arrival, Kilpatrick showed great promise in the back line last Friday, his raking left foot sure to deliver a penetrative aspect to the Northern Blues defence.
Now with practice games looming, Kilpatrick is looking forward to seeing the dividends of a tough pre-season.
“Everyone’s really improved their fitness over the pre-season and we’re really hoping that shows coming into the season,” he said.
“We’re a young team and we’d love to try and expose teams through sheer run.
“I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into some opposition and seeing the standard of the competition. It’s been a long couple of months but we’re definitely all ready for it.”
