Former Saints 200 game Duo – Justin Koschitzke and Austin Jones will be playing for the reigning EDFL premiers Cora Lynn Football Club (the Cobras) against arch rivals Nar Nar Goon to launch the season with a Round 1 block-buster at Cora Lynn on March 28th with the senior match starting at 7pm.
With no AFL footy being played on this weekend this game is anticipated to be possibly the largest attended home and away game crowd in EDFL history.
Justin Koschitzke the former no 2 AFL draft pick, 200 game AFL player is currently playing with Lavington in the Ovens and Murray Football League after retiring from the Saints at the end of the 2013 season. He has agreed to play a one-off game for the Cobras.
Alongside the senior coach Travis Marsham. Jones holds the current Director of Coaching role for the Cobras. He was appointed in November of last year. Jones has been training with the squad over the summer and is fighting fit. He has returned to his playing weight and has impressed in early pre-season matches. His leadership and knowledge that he is passing onto the Cobra players in his coaching mentor role is highly regarded.
Marsham is thrilled to have both Kozchitzke and Jones playing for the Cobras. “We are hopeful Aussie will play a fair share of the games during the season. Our players have learnt so much from him during pre-season in many facets of the game”. Marsham also added “This match will be a finals type crowd. Our young playing list has the opportunity of playing and learning alongside Kozi and Aussie. It will be an invaluable experience and opportunity. We can’t wait for the game”.
Kozi who hails from the small country town of Brocklesby in the Riverina region agreed to the request on the spot. “I am a country boy and I love country football and my time at Lavington in 2014 was and still is incredible. I had no hesitation when asked to help out Cora Lynn and support some of my good friends. My season at Lavington starts the week later so it worked in perfectly for me”.
Andrew Bergmeier the long standing President said the Cobra Executive Committee discussed the merits of having a one-off game for a particular player. “We had spoken to several clubs who had undertaken the same exercise and the feedback was very positive in terms of the positive impact on the clubs involved” he said “It was at this time we put the concept to the players who were all unanimous in support and it grew from there.”
Bergmeier said “It will be a great day as we unveil our premiership flag from last year in the Under 13’s and the seniors as well as 2 netball flags. We represent a small farming hamlet in West Gippsland and we are always looking at ways we can grow our club through innovative thinking. We always aspire to be the best club we can possibly be and provide a healthy community environment that attracts participants to our rural location”
