The EDFL held a successful information night on Monday 2nd March at the Dusties social rooms at Western Park Warragul. It was the first of three information nights this season – the others to be held on Wednesday 3rd June and Wednesday 5th August. The nights are designed to keep all clubs across the latest league developments and to engage with the local community.
Travis Marsham the 2014 Cora Lynn premiership coach was the first guest speaker and he kicked off proceedings with a talk on an anti-social behaviour policy he would like the league to adopt and the AFL to take up. Travis is seeking league endorsement for the policy which would involve commitment from all clubs. In short it would involve the clubs taking a stance and educating their members and supporters against inappropriate behaviour.
Next on the agenda was Michael O’Dea and David Francis from the Physioworks Health Group – an allied partner of the E&DFL in 2015 who specialise in Sports Physio and injury preventive management. David a Director at Physioworks and who also doubles as a senior Physiotherapist with AFL club Collingwood spoke about how they can assist in the improvement of player performance, development and welfare and how effective performance at any club requires team work across people in every role in a club. On the 25th March Physioworks have organised a night for all EDFL Trainers to attend at their Pakenham premises and an education night for coaches is also planned for mid to late April.
Prior to a question and answer session to conclude the night GUA umpires advisor Paul Vaughan told of all the latest news among the men in white and their keenness to embrace technology using their App, Umpire tracker and Show me programs this season.
The league will invite at least one community group to each of the two remaining information nights. The league have a preference for bodies that deal with youth and social and welfare issues. It proposes to sound out the likes of the Gippsland Mental Health Alliance, Beyond Blue and Headspace to name a few important bodies and give them an audience to promote their organisations and the assistance they provide.
Attached is picture of a league President Roger Gwynne with Physioworks Director David Francis, who both look very pleased with the night.
