Women's Preview: #PLMvEST
Words: Matt Dorman
The inaugural PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Senior Women’s season commences on Saturday with Palm Beach SC Women to host Eastern Suburbs Women in one of two opening day fixtures.
Sharks will be eager for a fast start at Mallawa Complex after finishing second in Football Brisbane’s SEQ Women’s Premier League last year.
Coach Gary French believes a clean bill of health will be key to his side capturing a debut title.
“If we can stay fit and avoid injuries then that will be a big benefit,” French said.
“We want to improve on last year. We were runners-up and every year we have been getting stronger, so I want to see my players continue to develop.”
French tipped Sharks as one to watch in 2015 with plans for an all-out assault on victory.
“We are a really attacking team,” he said.
“We scored more goals than anybody else last season and we go at teams every single game, home or away.”
Eastern Suburbs boss Garrath McPherson expressed a simpler desire to be consistently competitive, but vowed a product to please purists.
“We will be patient and possession-based in our play,” McPherson explained.
“We want to be considered after every game as playing the best football.”
Sunday’s match marks Easts’ introduction to PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues football and McPherson believes the club is set to reap the benefits.
“The senior team provides a destination for the juniors to progress to,” he said.
“The younger kids will hang around and watch the senior games and it will build the club’s base.”
Kick off at Mallawa Complex is at 3.00pm.
