South Australia’s country football regions are preparing for Adelaide and Port Adelaide to visit for their annual AFL Community Camps for 2015.
The Power is heading to the Barossa for its two-day visit on February 16-17 while the Crows will stay in Port Lincoln after their NAB Challenge match against North Melbourne at Centenary Oval on Sunday March 1.
On Monday, Power players will arrive to conduct visits to schools, hospitals and aged care facilities in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football League zone.
A feature of the trip will be a Superclinic - for children aged between 5 and 12 - conducted at Nuriootpa Oval from 4.30pm before Ken Hinkley’s charges sign autographs from 5.30pm.
Members of SANFL club Central District’s Under-15 Robert Zerella Academy will also be put through their paces by Port’s coaching staff, who will also conduct a coach’s seminar for local junior and senior mentors in the Barossa area.
From 7pm on Monday, a community dinner will be held at the Vine Inn Hotel at Nuriootpa with funds being raised for junior football in the BLGFL.
‘’It’s absolutely fantastic for the youngsters to rub shoulders with AFL players,’’ South Australian Community Football League regional co-ordinator Todd Thorne said.
‘’A great aspect of the trip is the local coaches receiving guidance from the Port coaches. And I know a lot of the children are very excited about getting up close to the heroes they see each week on TV by attending the Superclinic.’’
The Crows will spread their wings across the Eyre Peninsula while visiting primary and high schools as well as local businesses and the Port Lincoln Hospital on Monday March 2.
On the same day, Adelaide players will conduct a Superclinic for local juniors at Centenary Oval in Port Lincoln from 4.30pm before a function hosted by the Port Lincoln Football League that evening.
On Tuesday March 3, Crows players will be involved a series of lunches with key business partners from 12 noon.
All 18 AFL clubs will be travelling to different regional areas across Australia between now and the start of the premiership season.
