Free-Scoring Jets Dismantle Mitchelton
Words: Matt Dorman
Moreton Bay United have made it 15 goals in two matches after thumping a ten-man Mitchelton FC 9-1 in the Macron Cup on Saturday night.
Charles Mendy starred with four while Royce Brownlie grabbed two at A.J. Kelly Park as Jets continued where they left off from Tuesday’s 6-0 defeat of Wolves FC.
Jordan Farina was first on the scoresheet, converting a cutback from around the penalty spot to make it 1-0.
Mendy then tapped in his first in the 37th minute before Liam Previtera all but sealed the result on the stroke of half time, heading home from Royce Brownlie’s cross.
It took just six minutes after the restart for Brownlie to turn goalscorer as the prolific centre-forward got on the end of a through-ball and finished from inside the area.
Substitute Joe Champness extended the rout around the hour mark with another tidy finish with Mitchelton soon reduced to 10 following a second yellow.
The Trophy Superstore Premier League side did manage to pull one back from the penalty spot, but it wasn't enough to halt Jets' momentum.
Brownlie added to his tally while Mendy helped himself to another three in the final 10 minutes as the dangerous pair ensured the victory was highly emphatic for Adam Piddick’s side.
