Red-Hot Olympic Crush Wolves
Words: Matt Dorman
Olympic FC have rocketed back to winning ways with a 15-0 whitewash of Wolves FC in Saturday afternoon’s Macron Cup match at A.J. Kelly Park.
The PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland side offered no mercy to their inexperienced opponents, notching seven in the first half and a further eight after the break.
Rhys Meredith and Costa Psaros made the early inroads to ensure Olympic suffered no opened wounds from their midweek loss to Logan Lightning, putting the Yeronga side 2-0 ahead after 16 minutes.
Danny Byrne soon made it 3-0 as the floodgates began to open with Meredith grabbing a second, Michael Lee joining him on a brace and Smits scoring his first.
Speedy striker Meredith made it 8-0 shortly after the restart for his hattrick amidst a highly productive pre-season.
The goal moved Olympic four clear of Moreton Bay United on goal difference in Group B but they weren’t done there, improving the emphatic margin through Byrne, Scott Bow and two more Smits strikes.
Defender Matt Mundy found time to net two of his own in the final 15 minutes before the scoring was finally capped by a third from Lee in the 86th minute.
Olympic are now in pole position to qualify for next Saturday’s Macron Cup final.
