The Gap Women Overrun Power
Words: Matt Dorman
A late three-goal flurry has helped The Gap Women to a comprehensive 4-0 friendly win over Peninsula Power Women at AJ Kelly Park on Sunday afternoon.
Power held their highly-fancied opponents to a single goal for much of the match before the Gators stormed home to make a strong pre-season statement.
Returning midfielder Jess Dillon, who has spent time in the Westfield W-League with Perth Glory, netted the opener inside the first 45 minutes to hand The Gap a 1-0 lead at the break.
The scoreline remained untouched until the final 10 minutes when a Susie Roeger strike was sandwiched between Beth Ashton's brace, completing the rout.
Ashton's goals took on extra meaning as the striker completed her first full 90 minutes from two injury-hit years.
Peninsula Power Women's coach Allan Waller classed the match as a "good learning exercise" for his side, while opposite number Rob Askew expressed his pleasure with The Gap's control over the encounter.
Peninsula Power FC Women 0
The Gap FC Women 4 (Jess DILLON 5', Beth ASHTON 82' 90', Susie ROEGER 85')
