Three West Australian’s Named in Australian Lacrosse Team
The Australian Lacrosse Association announced the Under 19 Australian’s Women’s Lacrosse Team last week with three Western Australian’s securing their spots in the National team.
Ashtyn Hiron (18) from the Phoenix Lacrosse Club, Karri Sommerville (15) from Subiaco Lacrosse Club and Goal Keeper Sharn Muffett (16) from Wanneroo Lacrosse Club were named in the team. Wembley Lacrosse Club’s Rhiannon Panting (15) was selected as an Alternate.
The team will travel to Scotland in July this year to compete in the Under 19 World Championships. Fifteen teams will be competing for the world title against the Aussies including USA, England, Canada, New Zealand along with Israel and Colombia who are new the world Lacrosse stage.
For Ashtyn Hiron this will be second opportunity to wear the green and gold. She represented Australia at the last Under 19 World Championship in Germany four years ago at just 15 years of age and is ready for her return to top level lacrosse.
Hiron is currently fulfilling her childhood dream in the USA playing Lacrosse at Jacksonville University in Florida where she continues to dominate on the Lacrosse field.
Hiron said, “I am so excited to be able to represent Australia again at the Under 19 level. I know the whole squad has been putting in so many hours on and off the track and all the girls are looking really fit and strong.”
The process of selection has been a long one for the girls just to get to this point. Two years of solid training and interstate travel to various camps around the country have seen them selected in the team.
