The Camden Cats have started their 2015 player recruitment drive on a positive note, with the signing of three quality players with Premier Division experience.
Camden Cats President Joshua Leys believes the recruitment of these three players is a positive sign this early into pre-season.
“The recruitment of Joshua Van Luenen, Luke Bodeker and William Wylie is a reflection on the positive direction of the Camden football club. Players want to be part of the club because they believe in what we are doing here and want to taste premiership success,” says Leys.
Josh, Luke and Billy join the club from the Campbelltown Blues, having all played Premier Division last season. Josh Van Luenen is the most experienced and decorated of the three new recruits having been part of the AFL Sydney U/23's squad, NSW Rams U/18's, Giants Western Sydney U/18's Academy and NSW/ACT Talented Player Program.
Van Luenen says there were a few factors in deciding to join Camden. “Joining Camden gives me a chance to play along side my brother and some of my good friends. The club has a great culture off the field and has proven it can be successful on the field. Once my old GWS Coach Chris Hughes was appointed as Camden Head Coach that was the final deciding factor,” he said.
Pre-season training is 6 weeks in for the new recruits and their new Camden team mates. “My first impressions of Camden have been really positive. Training has been short and intense with a real focus on the development of skills. Everyone is switched on and works hard during training. I’ve been really impressed with Hughesy so far (new coach Chris Hughes) and look forward to playing under him,” said Luke Bodeker.
The Camden Cats AFL Club is excited about the 2015 season and will field senior sides in AFL Sydney’s Division 2, 4 and 5 competitions. The addition of a Division 4 senior side in 2015 is a positive reflection on the recent growth of the Camden club and the work the club has done in actively promoting the growth of AFL in South-West Sydney.
New recruit Billy Wylie says he is excited about the season ahead. “Pre-season has been great so far. Everyone around the club, from the committee, to the coaching staff and players have been very welcoming. I am looking forward to helping Camden win some games of football next year” he said.
Pre-season training is already underway on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:15pm at Fairfax Reserve, Harrington Park.
Camden is currently recruiting players for the 2015 season and would welcome new players, regardless of their sporting ability or AFL experience.
