Before a large group of sponsors, supporters, players and staff, the St George AFC Awards for season 2014 were presented at the St George Masos who are a principal sponsor of the club. The spirit was positive as the Premiership Flag for the Under 19 Division 1 was unfurled much to the delight of Coach Derek Waters and Manager Todd Sanderson. MC Jack Scully tried to excite the audience as the Felstead Medal for the Under 19’s Best & Fairest was announced. But Cameron Kolster was a clear and decisive winner from Round 8 and steadily outpolled all comers.
In the Premier Division, the Dwyer Medal for Best & Fairest was a contest for the young guns. The lead rotated throughout the night as first Ben Jones and then Jordan West surged but the last round threw up a tie between two players who shone all season, Alexander Wynn and Karl Merson.
Of the major club awards, the Wynn family completed a great night when Andrew Wynn was named Clubman of the Year. Besides being a Vice –President of the Club, Andrew is responsible for all liaison with our junior clubs. He has established and expanded the St George Academy which has already delivered substantial benefits to the club.
In a similar vein the Best Playing Clubman was awarded to David Watts who despite a season ending shoulder injury took on the role of runner, waterboy and all round Mr Do-it for whatever grade needed his support. Hopefully David will be fit and back to playing next season
