With changes to the NEAFL competition structure for 2015 there will also be significant changes to the selection model for teams within the NEAFL which are outlined in the document below.
These changes have been developed in consultation with Sydney University and AFL NSW/ACT over 2014. This, along with standardised NEAFL rules for Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane brings consistency for all connected leagues.
The changes outlined clearly separates the Sydney University NEAFL program from the clubs Premier Division and Under 19’s which is an important step.
As for the Sydney University NEAFL squad, this group have commenced their pre-season training already with players vying for the 35 available Primary List positions.
The Rookie list positions (max 12) will importantly be selected in direct consultation with both the Swans and Giants academies.
These lists (Primary and Rookie) will be lodged to the AFL in early 2015 with those AFL Sydney players who are unsuccessful moving back to their AFL Sydney club.
Next Wednesday AFL Sydney will be holding its 2015 Planning Meeting where representatives from both the NEAFL competition and Sydney University will be in attendance to discuss further including details around the mini draft, NEAFL structure etc.
