On the 9th of October the SANFL held its Media Awards Night including presenting 2 awards for community football. Congratulations to the winners
BEST COMMUNITY FOOTBALL COVERAGE - Rod Morris (The Border Watch)
The judges were delighted with the overall quality of entries, with Rod’s diverse portfolio of stories earning wide praise. Not only did Rod write some engaging feature stories, his ability to flesh out a difference-making news story – titled Scoregate – displayed an exceptional quality of journalism which made a significant impact on the local community and the Western Border Football League.
Special mention goes to the Mt Barker Courier’s Ben Goldfinch, who produced a high quality story focusing on the Hahndorf Football Club’s ability to rally around a teenage footballer who had endured the passing of both of his parents in tragic circumstances.
BEST COMMUNITY FOOTBALL PHOTOGRAPHIC COVERAGE – Emma Lee Pedler (ABC West Coast)
The judges were particularly impressed with Emma’s series of three photos taken during action from the Great Flinders Football League in 2014. Emma displayed an exceptional ability to not only capture exceptional action in her photos but also the ‘’grass roots’’ feel of country football.
Special mention goes to Peter Argent for his photo of James Lawton taking a spectacular mark for Angaston.
