Goondiwindi Hawks’s women's player Jessica Bell and South Toowoomba junior Georgia Osborne have been included in the 23-player Demons squad to contest the State Championships starting on Thursday.
Initial squad members Alice Rathie (Fairholme College), Emily McGregor (Goondiwindi AFC) and Taylah Schutt (Fairholme College) have had to withdraw.
With the withdrawals this gives both Bell and Osborne the opportunity to represent the Darling Downs for the first ever team as a standalone team at the upcoming youth girls State Championships.
Both players were unlucky to miss the first squad naming but both worked hard and earn their call up to the Demons team.
Darling Downs Coach Jeff Neumann told DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au that both were accomplished players at club football land.
"Even though it is unfortunate to lose the likes of Rathie, McGregor and Schutt, both Jess and Georgia have the ability to play various roles throughout the championships," said Coach Neumann.
"Osborne is footy mad and always has a footy in her hands, her knowledge of the game is second to none."
"Bell is probably one of the most committed players and kept in regular contact, with her training workload as an emergency."
"Both definitely deserve their call up and no doubt very excited by the challenge ahead," Neumann added.
