This decision was made by the EDFL Board of Management last week at a special meeting. It was based on information gathered over recent weeks and tabled by board members at the meeting.
The board understand some clubs are better placed to transition back to a one tier competition and as a result the following initiatives will be implemented to help equalise the competition.
- Revamped point system
- Seeded draw with a final eight.
- Financial accountability
- Each club must field four teams (Seniors, reserves, U/18’s and U/16’s)
- Clubs to sign a ‘Heads of Agreement’
- By-laws will be reviewed and updated.
The reasons behind the decision to revert back to a one division league along with the information gathered as part of the East-West review and also the specifics of the equalisation scheme will be released in the upcoming weeks. The EDFL board felt it had enough information to make a decision and it was important to release the decision prior to the original date of 31 October to let clubs get on with their planning for 2015.
