The Darling Downs Demons youth girls representative side have officially named the inaugural leaders ahead of the State Championships starting this Thursday at Yeronga AFC.
Coolaroo AFC women's player Amelia Cooke was named the inaugural Captain with rookie's Kristen Currie and Molly Cooper announced as Vice-Captains.
Cooke played 9-games with the navy-Roos this season, including the Blackchrome Cup Preliminary Final loss to Dalby. From the outset, Cooke was identified as a natural leader and will play a pivotal role in the Demons State Championships campaign.
Vice-Captains Currie and Cooper are yet to play club football but have shown they both have very bright futures in Australian Football.
Currie a senior student from Fairholme College, leads by example with her actions and is the on-field player that others within the team will look up to. Cooper a passionate Richmond supporter will play a key role within the Demons forward 50, with the Grade 11 student earmarked as a future Captain.
The Darling Downs Demons coaching staff also added another player to the already established 5-player leadership group.
Joining Michelle McCormack and Danielle Wall, is young-gun Abbey Hancock, finalising a 6-player leadership group that includes Cooke, Currie, Cooper, Wall and McCormack. The leadership group will play a pivotal role in the step between the playing group and coaching staff, throughout the 4-day State Championships.
Darling Downs play their first game this Thursday evening at Yeronga AFC in Brisbane at 6:00pm against country rivals Townsville. Make sure you go to www.aflq.com.au to follow the game live or head down and support the red and blue youth girls.
