Enrollments are now open for the 2014/2015 AFL Queensland Summer Development Program where participants get the opportunity to further develop their skills and AFL knowledge in preparation for the upcoming season.
The Summer Development Program helps prepares young players who aspire to play elite level football in 2015 and is offered to youth aged 11-12 years old (born 2004/2003), 13-14 years old (born 2002/2001), 15-16 years old (born 2000/1999) and youth girls aged 11-17 years old (born between 1998 to 2004).
It all kicks off on Monday the 10th of November with six sessions leading up to Christmas and five sessions in February/March 2015.
The Summer Development Program is designed to assist players to gain the most out of themselves and reach their maximum potential. This is done through quality coaching and assistance with skill development, skill acquisition and overall game sense.
AFL Queensland Darling Downs Regional Manager Keith Webb places a lot of value on the program.
“The summer program is about building the engine, which we call the aerobic capacity to be able to cover the ground,” said Webb.
“We hone in on the three aspects of kicking, fitness and decision making.”
If you are looking to reach the elite level, it is integral to participate in the program as it provides a solid base for players looking for representative opportunities in 2015, all done with the guidance and support from the Brisbane Lions academy.
Summer Development Program graduates include 2015 Brisbane Lion draftee Liam Dawson, who participated several years ago in the program. Years down the track, he is reaping in the rewards.
With limited spots available, two packs are available PACK A $60 or PACK B $90 with various benefits for those that participate.
