DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au takes a look at each of the regions clubs, in a season review. We take a look at each team’s season, best players, the clubs gun, star in the making and much more.
The Wash-Up: South Burnett Saints
South Burnett took massive steps forward in season 2014, playing in the division 2 competition was an important step in not only the clubs development but awareness within the region of the newly formed club.
Claiming their first minor premiership and making the Grand-Final are two massive achievements the Saints no doubt celebrated this season.
Senior Coach Steve Humbler was again announced the AFL Darling Downs senior coach of the year after another stellar season at the helm. Veteran Adam Bowater capped off a superb individual season that included captaining the AFL Darling Downs men's representative side by claiming the Marj Shaw Medal as a joint winner of the competitions best and fairest award.
The Saints junior side narrowly missed out on a maiden finals appearance but no doubt they will be back bigger and better.
Best and Fairest Winners
U14's - Amos Hicks
Div 2 - Adam Bowater & Kieran Snow
The SAINTS Gun
Ty Snow - At 19 years of age this kid is a jet, quick, agile, runs all day, kicks goals and plays a good defensive game. With 29-career games with the Saints thus far and past games with the former Kingaroy Bulldogs, Snow is no longer a kid. This young man is exactly what the Saints need to take the next step to premiership glory.
Keep an eye on
Pacey Clegg - In just his first season of Australian Rules, Clegg is an excitement machine. Pacey has picked up the game very quickly and can probably lay claim to one of the goals of the year. Keep an eye out for Clegg, as the Kingaroy based junior is one that will no doubt be dominating senior footy in a few years time.
Under 14's Review
In just their second season, the Saints 14's narrowly missed playing in their maiden finals series. 34-points was what separated the South Burnett and the McDonald's Shield elimination final.
However, with that loss aside it was an impressive season by the young Saints. They marched to 7 wins 5 losses and 2 draws in a season of classy football. Amos Hicks was a standout for the Saints claiming the club best and fairest award.
Silky midfielder Lleyton Brown took his football to the next level as a listed player with the Darling Downs Crows.
Keegan Wright claimed the clubs leading goal-scorer after an impressive season tally of 38 majors. The Saints are on the verge of finals and we predict they will be playing them in 2015.
Division 2 Review
From near bottom of the ladder last season to claiming the clubs maiden minor premiership and the Grand-Final appearance, it was nothing but a successful season.
The Saints claimed 12-wins for the year and they claimed the Trevor Green Expansion Cup twice over fellow newcomers Chinchilla on both occasions. Veteran Adam Bowater did the best and fairest double, claiming the competitions Marj Shaw Medal and the clubs top award. However, Bowater had to share both with other players.
Coach Steve Humbler went back to back as the AFL Darling Downs coach of the year, while Bowater added another individual accolade captaining the Darling Downs representative side against the QAFA in Warwick.
South Burnett have the list to go one better in 2015 but the question will be can they back up an incredible year?
