With two weeks to go until the Darling Downs debut as a standalone team in the AFL Queensland Youth Girls Under-17 State Championships at Yeronga, we continue our series of player profiles.
Chloe 'Macca' MacDonald
Every footballer has an elite player that they look up to and 2014 school-girls State Representative Chloe MacDonald looks up to one of the game’s biggest stars for her inspiration.
Gold Coast SUNS captain and dual Brownlow medalist Gary Ablett Jnr is the inspiration for the hard-running and natural leader MacDonald.
Asked why Ablett was her idol, MacDonald was quick to compare herself to the AFL great.
"Ablett is my idol because he is small and fast off the mark like me," MacDonald said.
"I would, one day really want to play like him……. if I ever got to that level."
"It would be my goal to be like Ablett."
However it hasn't always been smooth sailing for one of the regions rising stars, with MacDonald involved in a serious accident at the age of ten and names her brother as her hero.
"My hero is my brother because he was the person who went and got help when I had my motorbike accident when I was 10 years old," MacDonald told www.DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au
"If he hadn’t of been there when it happened I would of never been able to play sport again because the paramedics said that I would of lost one of my legs if he got there any later."
"That is why I am very thankful to have someone like him in my life because that day could have changed my whole life."
MacDonald has enjoyed her second representative program of the year and loves spending time with her new team-mates.
"What I have enjoyed most about this program is spending lots of time with my teammates and coaches and getting to know new people and friends," said MacDonald.
"I have enjoyed learning new skills, which I can then take away to teach others and to utilise at the state champs."
In just her first season of club football with the South Toowoomba Bombers, MacDonald had an impressive debut season. MacDonald finished inside the top 10 in the Heather Green Medal count and will no doubt feature heavily in her clubs best and fairest vote count.
MacDonald played 13 games including the Grand-Final loss with the Bombers and kicked 21 goals as well. ‘Macca’ is a hard-running outside midfielder, who loves to run and carry.
At just 15-years of age, MacDonald has achieved a lot in her debut season, individual accolades of a seasoned veteran
