Kristen ‘Kritta’ Currie
Fairholme College student Kristen ‘Kritta’ Currie will be drawing from her sporting idol Michael Hussey when she lines up for the Darling Downs in the upcoming Under-17 State Championships at the end of the month.
When asked about why Mr. Cricket is her idol, Kritta loved his commitment and determination.
“I love how committed and determined he is to achieve and continue achieving his best,” said Currie
“I admire his conduct both on and off the field.”
“ I admire how humble he is and how he approaches every situation, I also like his positivity and how that impacts those around him.”
It is those attributes of Hussey that Currie will take into her newly appointed leadership role. Currie was selected as one of a five person leadership group for the Darling Downs youth girls.
The rookie player, who is a very talented state cricketer and has been surprised at how much she has enjoyed being involved in one of the regions premier representative programs,.
“I have been really surprised by how much I have enjoyed playing and training,” she said.
“The thing I have enjoyed most about this program has been learning how to play a game that I have never played before.”
“When I decided to trial I knew it was going to be fun but I didn’t realise I would enjoy it as much as I have,” Currie added.
The dual Queensland representative has found the transition into Aussie Rules has been a smooth one.
“I haven’t found the transition too hard, like there are still heaps of fundamentals I need to learn but I have it really interesting because AFL is kind of like a combination of a few sports I have played before,” Kritta told DarlingDowns.AFLQ.com.au
Kritta was asked which part of Australian Rules has she enjoyed the most, and it was quite a simple answer for the Fairholme grade 12 student.
“My favourite part of AFL would be kicking, I am not too good at it but I enjoy it because it’s very new to me,” Currie said.
