South Burnett Saints AFC coach Steve Humbler has taken his side from last seasons 4wins and 12 loss record, to an impressive 11 win and 2 losses as the Saints claimed the Division 2 minor premiership.
However, it isn't the results that are Coach Humblers most impressive feats and the reason behind his AFL Darling Downs Senior Coach of the Year award.
One of the main contributing factors behind the coaches success is his ability to communicate with his players and have them on the same page. In his first two seasons at the helm, Humbler has been able to take 40+ players, with over 70% from a non-Australian Football background and teach them the game at a high standard.
Humbler said he was particularly proud of his player's development over the course of the season.
"I just think the way the boys have come along this year has been the highlight."
"The younger blokes, learning how to play. And some of them have not played in years, that's been my greatest satisfaction.
"They got rewarded with the grand final. Unfortunately it didn't go our way but we'll dust ourselves off over the next few weeks."
Humbler is the inaugural Coach and is proud to be involved with the Saints.
"We've been in a fortunate situation to be able to build a club," he said.
"It's a great culture there, they all get involved."
Humbler said the team would come back stronger in the 2015 season and he was already planning training sessions.
"That last weekend in November we will get stuck in to our swimming to keep us in good stead."
