Free-scoring Sunshine Coast Fire teen Adam Edgar has been snapped up by Hyundai A-League club Newcastle Jets following a standout PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season.

Edgar, 16, notched 25 goals in 15 games for Fire's U16s this year to win a youth contract with the Jets for their upcoming Foxtel National Youth League campaign.

The striker said the opportunity to play for Newcastle was another step towards his ultimate goal of becoming a professional footballer.

"Joining the Jets is something I have worked very hard to achieve over the past six plus years," Edgar said.

"I have had a really enjoyable season at the Fire and would like to thank my teammates, my U16s coach Ben Cahn, fellow Fire coach Daniel Carew and former Technical Director Kevin A'herne-Evans for making 2014 such an enjoyable and successful year for the team and myself."

Edgar, who will join Northern Fury's Braedyn Crowley at the Hunter club, believes his story could be one of hope for similar youngsters.

"I have always been focussed on eventually becoming a professional footballer despite things not always going my way in terms of state and QAS selection," he said.

"Other players should not be disheartened during their teenage years if they are overlooked, just keep working extra hard and eventually something will happen for you."

Hailing from the English city of Liverpool, Edgar earlier this season spent time on trial with the likes of Glasgow Rangers, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and FC Copenhagen, whose Technical Director provided a recommendation to the Jets.

Sunshine Coast U16s coach Ben Cahn praised his player's dedication.

"I hope for Adam that Newcastle is the right fit for him as he has an unbelievable determination to succeed and is a strong, quick, powerful player who will always score goals," Cahn said.

"I wish him all the best and will be following his progress closely."

Edgar has already begun training with the Jets and will relocate to Newcastle next week.
