The UTS Bats have appointed former Sydney Swans premiership player Nic Fosdike to the position of Head Coach for the next two years.
Fosdike played 164 AFL games after joining the Swans as pick 3 in the 1998 National Draft and was one of Sydney's best in their 2005 drought breaking premiership.
The 34-year old played his last AFL match in 2008 and continued his involvement in football in NSW by playing and coaching Balmain in the AFL Sydney competition for two years.
Fosdike will take over the role from former UTS premiership captain Alan Kymantas, who led the the Bats in the 2014 AFL Sydney competition.
Fosdike says he’s excited about the challenge ahead with the Bats.
“I am really looking forward to finally be involved with the mighty UTS Bats, a club I have admired for a long time,” said Fosdike.
“The Bats have had plenty of success in the lower grades and is well known for it's social culture, so I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone involved with the club.
“I can’t wait to get stuck in with the playing group and work towards taking the Premier Division team to the next level in 2015 and beyond.”
UTS Bats President Nick Haslam says the appointment of Fosdike as Head Coach is one of the most significant in the Bats short history.
“Nic brings an enormous amount of experience to the Bats and we see him as the perfect person to take our club forward,” said Haslam.
“The standard of the AFL Sydney competition is increasing rapidly, and we feel that Nic’s time at the highest level will help drive our Premier Division side up the ladder.
“We want to set the standard in AFL Sydney both on and off the field and this appointment is an important first step in us reaching our goals.”
Haslam has also paid tribute to outgoing senior coach Alan Kymantas.
“Alan stepped into the role as senior coach for 2014 when his beloved Bats needed him, and we are working through discussions with Alan regarding a role with the Bats in 2015.
“His hard work and dedication to the club was outstanding, and despite the results not showing on the scoreboard this year, we thank him for his ongoing commitment to the club,” he said.
The 2014 season saw the Bats win the Division 4 Grand Final and the Division 1 side finish as runner ups after a tight Grand Final against Balmain last week.
