WARWICK player-coach Jason Wright says he can finally hang up the boots after delivering the Redbacks a long-awaited AFL Darling Downs title.
The Redbacks ended an 18-year drought as they claimed the minor premiership and premiership double this season with a 10.18 (78) to 9.7 (61) win over University in the grand final at Rockville Park.
Warwick had previously won a reserve grade flag in 1998 but the A-grade premiership eluded them until Saturday's triumph over the Cougars.
Wright was one of the founding members of the club back in 1995 and played in Warwick's three previous grand final appearances in 2001, 2002, and 2011.
After almost two decades of giving his all for the Redbacks both on and off the field, Wright declared the grand final victory was the perfect finish to his long playing career.
"I'm done now. Best way to go out," Wright said.
"The body hasn't held up all that well through the year. I've struggled to stay on the paddock.
"This is what I've been waiting for."
