The Port Douglas Senior squad could not have asked for a better platfrom to launch from in their title tilt than the one created by their reserve grade side.
Port had come down the highway in good spirits.
And their emphatic 18.14 (122) to 5.4 (34) defeat of a good Saints team got Cazalys rocking.
Every goal was celebrated with increased vigour in the final quarter.
Port were able to lap up the moment after bursting to a 53-point lead at half time.
They kept Saints scoreless in the first quarter and then piled on eight majors themselves in the final term to comprehensively take the flag.
Young gun Ashley Davidson was best on ground to cap his standout season.
Having lost three of the last four finals it was a moment to savour for coach Lynton Heffer. " You little beauty," he said.
"You did everything to the letter - the town, the club are so proud of you and we're taking the flag back up the highway tonight."
Saints player-coach Ben Sullivan said they had just run into a red-hot Port on the wrong day.
