Four standout Brisbane Strikers players have shared the major honours at the club’s annual awards presentation on Saturday night.
Greg King was honoured as his team’s Player of the Year at the event, while goal machine Matt Thurtell added to his club Golden Boot honour with Player’s Player of the Year.
Jheison Macauce, who quickly became a fan favourite after switching from Redlands United for the 2014 campaign, was acknowledged as Supporter’s Player of the Year.
While promising young attacking talent Jackson Hall’s contributions were also recognised with the Star Of The Future award.
King, who previously played two seasons at Strikers as a left winger, switched to left full back for the majority of this year’s PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season, scoring twice in 21 league appearances.
The 27-year-old began the year as vice-captain but assumed the captaincy after Jonti Richter was sidelined with a chronic foot injury and played a key role in Strikers’ progression to the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16.
It is the second time King as received the honour after perviously taking home the award in 2012.
Strikers Golden Boot winner Thurtell netted 18 goals in 23 appearances in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland, as well as scoring five further goals in cup competition this year.
His goal scoring feats were made more impressive after a late start to the season as the 22-year-old battled back from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament that prematurely ended his 2013 season.
Stand out performers from Strikers’ junior and youth sides were also recognised for their contributions this season.
