FROM THE DESK PRELIMINARY FINAL

GOTAFE GVFL team managers and club officials should be aware of the early start to games on grand final day next Sunday September 28. The thirds will commence at 9-15 am, 45 minutes earlier than the normal starting time, with the reserves due to commence at 11.35 am and the seniors at 2.25 pm. Also following each game the following medals will be presented to the player judged best afield: Thirds the “Freddo McMahon” medal, Reserves the “Peter Ryan” medal and Seniors the prestigious “Wilf Cox” medal as well as the AFL/ACFL Medal.
CAR PASSES ONLY AT GRAND FINAL
Only cars displaying car passes will be admitted to Deakin Reserve on Grand Final day. Each participating club will be allocated a number of car passes while a special area on the Southern side of the ground, as in previous years will be reserved and strictly policed for handicapped persons restricted to their vehicles. These car passes can be obtained by contacting 03 58 216 888. Due to restricted space access to this area will be limited and consideration should be given to the applicant’s condition as there are quite a number of people severely handicapped who apply for these spaces each year.
Wes CUSWORTH RETURNS
Win TV personality and sports presenter Wes CUSWORTH now operating from Win TV’s Ballarat Headquarters has never lost his enthusiasm and love of the GoTafe GVFL. High on the priority list of Wes is to be Master of Ceremonies at our AFL/VCFL Championship matches and the GVFL Grand Final. Suffice to say he will be returning to Deakin Reserve next Sunday in his role as Master of Ceremonies. Say good day to Wes; he loves the Goulburn Valley and we in the GVFL appreciate his professionalism.
27TH ANNUAL COACH OF THE YEAR DINNER
The Goulburn Murray Coaches Association will hold their annual presentation dinner at the Barooga Sports club next Wednesday night September 24. On the night the announcement of the “Goulburn Murray Coaches Association Coach of the Year” will take place and all nominated Coaches from the Goulburn Murray area will be recognized.
We in the GVFL will be plugging for Benalla Saints coach Luke MORGAN our 2013 Morrison Medalist and runner up this year as well as Euroa thirds coach Gavin WILLIAMS. We all are well aware of their achievements this season. Luke’s team is in the box seat having already secured a spot in the grand final following a dynamic display in the second semi final against Kyabram while Gavin’s Euroa Magpies Thirds team was eliminated from the finals by the Seymour Lions following last Sundays 1st semi final match at Kyabram. Don’t take anything away from Gavin, he’s worked hard to maintain a thirds team at Euroa, that hard work may pay dividends at Euroa with the likely hood of a number of players becoming permanent fixtures in the Euroa team in season 2015 from the Euroa team affiliated with the Seymour Juniors.
Good luck to both Luke and Gavin..
GRAND FINAL NATIONAL ANTHEM
The GOTAFE Goulburn Valley Football League Chairman Trevor POLLARD and his fellow Board members are delighted to announce that Vicki POMEROY will again sing the Australian National Anthem prior to next Sunday’s senior grand final at the Deakin. Vicki received a standing ovation following her rendition last year.
GoTafe GVFL ELECTED LIFE MEMBERSHIP
While it is obviously well documented in other area’s it is important that I offer my personal congratulations and thanks to Gus UNDERWOOD, Ken DANIELS and David WILLIAMS in being recognized as elected Life Members of the GoTafe GVFL last Sunday at Kyabram and at the Morrison/Wellman Medal count last Monday night. I thank them sincerely for the support they have given me over many years.
MORRISON/WELLMAN MEDAL COUNT NIGHT
While this column does not allow me to recognize the contributions made to everyone who were involved in helping to make last Monday nights medal and presentation night a successful night I would like to thank Melissa WELLS and Noel HUSSEY. Melissa the GVFL’s Administration Officer, for her magnificent power point display plus many other aspects of the night and Noel the GVFL’s Publicity Officer for his contribution to the “Mooroopna Golf Club Rising Star” awards and also the “GOTAFE Personality of the Year”. Thanks to you both.
