Prelim day in the gotafe GVFL today is the last roll of the dice for three teams.
In the seniors, reigning premiers Kyabram and Shepparton Swans clash at The D in what should be a great game with the winner going into the grand final to challenge Benalla for the premiership on today week.
The Saints made it 19 wins in a row on Saturday at Seymour and one more for the season and they become champions and premiers, something which hasn’t been done before in GVFL history.
The way the Saints disposed of the Bombers was something I never expected along with a lot of other GVFL supporters. It just wasn’t supposed to happen that way (55 points) and it just goes to show what might occur in the grand final after the Saints have a week’s spell.
And there’s the X factor. Will Morrison Medallist Will MARTINELLO play? I think so.
Darwin bookie, Tom WATERGATE has the Saints at 6/4 on to win the flag and the Swans favourite at evens to down the Bombers at 3-1 in today’s preliminary.
Like the Saints, the Swans belted the Bulldogs by 41 points once they were up and running, however, the Swans still have the yips when shooting for goal and they must straighten up today if they want to make the granny and given themselves a chance of winning their first flag since 1970.
After such a hiding, I can’t see the Bombers recovering their confidence enough to get over the Swans, then again who would have predicted last weekend’s results.
Swans coach, Brett WARBURTON, will ask his boys for another big effort today because he’ll known master coach, Dave WILLIAMS doesn’t go down without a fight.
I’m not jumping on any bandwagon but I have said all along the Swans have the troops to go all the way as they proved at Mansfield against the Saints; however, they must get over the Bombers today.
Tyson SIDEBOTTOM, Jamason DANIELS, BJ SQUIRE, Tom PREECE and co will need to again explode from the middle and put the Bombers defenders under the pump.
Let’s hope this isn’t another blow out and injuries a minimal and the winner take a complete side into the granny against the Saints.
