The Manly-Warringah Australian Football Club 2014 season is now nearing the end with Premier Division Grand final the last game, and a huge grand final replay it is - and for the Club a defence of this crown is the ultimate prize.
The 2014 season has been a successful one for the Club, starting with the inauguration of the Manly-Warringah Women's team who from a standing start of 6 players in preseason have managed to bring together a team week in week out and come away with 4 wins for the season - an incredible feat for a group of women who in the main have not played AFL before, and certainly not played together as a team.
Our U19s team was promoted to Division 1 for the first time in the Club's history - and the boys exceeded expectations falling one game short of the getting into the Grand Final - an achievement further impressed that they were leading going into the last break of the preliminary final; the future is bright as majority of the boys are young enough to play U19s in 2015.
Our senior mens Division 4 side had a solid year, though missing out on finals showed some real exciting glimpses during the season beating 3 eventual finalists sides from Round 9 to end of the H&A season.
Our senior mens Division 2 side like the U19 fell one game short of the Grand Final, and throughout the season showed they were genuine finals contenders.
Premier Division maintained the rage in 2014 retaining the minor premiership, and through to the Grand Final this weekend as genuine favourites, and mindful of keeping the lid on this.
The success for the 2014 season across all teams culminated in the Club - for third year running - winning the AFL Sydney Club Championship. The Club is proud of what it has achieved in 2014 and has a steely eye on the ultimate prize this Saturday.
Off the field the Club is indebted to the many committed and selfless volunteers who hold our Club fabric together; to the GWS Giants for aligning with our Club for the first time this year, allowing the club access to the professionalism of their know-how and to their world class facilities; and to all our sponsors, our major sponsor being Hotel Steyne - for their long terms support for the Club and community football.
Finally to the Manly- Warringah players and coaches themselves, irrespective of outcomes of this weekend, what an incredible result you have achieved this year. Very well done to all involved in the Club.
