The 2014 Col Wells medal has been awarded to a trio of stars from three different clubs, that spread from east to west.
Dalby Swans star Thomas Matthews, Coolaroo's Harrison Claydon and Ashley Britton from the Lockyer Valley Demons were awarded the joint winners of the 2014 Col Wells Medal as the fairest and best players in the Under 14 McDonald's Shield.
All three had stellar seasons for their respective clubs, finishing the vote count on 22-votes each, 3 clear of runner up Emmanual Fallah of University.
Britton has played 64 games across his three seasons playing Australian Rules, which includes 45 career goals. The hard running midfielder has played a majority of those games with the Lockyer Valley Demons, however 11 of those games were with the Darling Downs Crows development program.
Claydon is into his 5th season and since his debut in 2010, he has gone from strength to strength. He has played 94 career games across those 5 seasons, as playing a majority with his local club Coolaroo, however he has played 21 games across 2 seasons with the Darling Downs Crows.
Matthews, the more talked about of the three has racked up over 100 career games already and kicked an amazing 267 goals.
Since individual statistics has been kept on FoxSports Pulse since 2010, Matthews has played 87 games for the Dalby Swans and a further 29 games with the Crows. Matthews also took out the DD Crows best and fairest (Michael O'Donoghue Medal), with Britton as runner-up.
With three different winners, from three different clubs in the region it proves the strength and of not just the city clubs but regional based clubs like Dalby and Lockyer Valley have the right development pathways in place to develop players.
