It was an intense vote count, with the 2014 Peltz Medal awarded to not one but two players.
Female football star Zimmorlei Farquharson and silky left-footer Deng Makuach tied for the Under 12 best and fairest award on 20-votes each.
University midfielder Makuach collected his 20-votes in the first 12 rounds of the season, with an amazing 5 games where he collected the maximum 3 votes from the umpires. Dalby Swans star female footballer Zimmorlei Farquharson had a well-balanced season, collecting the last of her votes in her sides round 15 loss to Warwick. Zimmorlei picked up the 3 votes that sealed her as the joint Peltz Medallist in season 2014.
However, the joint winners weren't leading all night with Makuach's team-mate Callum Banim, the eventual runner-up leading at the half-way mark, 2 votes clear of the neck and neck, Farquharson and Makuach.
The half-way leader board also showed the Makuach family's footballing talent, with Deng's brother Akol in 4th place after 9 rounds.
What makes the joint winners a great story is the diverse background both players come from. Both Zimmorlei and Deng are from a multicultural background, along with having a male and female winner, showing that our game is inclusive and for everyone.
